The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the successful release of another female Prospective Corps Member (PCM) and the driver who were abducted in Zamfara last year, marking a significant breakthrough in efforts to secure the release of all victims.

The abducted individuals were among eight graduates en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Sokoto when they were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in August last year.

Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press at the NYSC headquarters, in a statement issued via X, revealed that the corps member and the driver were freed through the concerted efforts of the NYSC and the military.

Megwa further disclosed that with the recent release, a total of five out of the eight kidnapped victims have regained their freedom between September last year and February.

“The NYSC Management and the military have secured the release of another female Prospective Corps Member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to NYSC Camp in Sokoto State last year,” stated the press release.

“This brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) already released to five, while efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the remaining three (one female and two male) still in captivity regain their freedom soonest.”

Assuring the public of continued efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims, Megwa reiterated the NYSC’s commitment to upholding the security and welfare of corps members.

“As corps members and prospective ones alike are admonished by management to always prioritize their security,” Megwa added,
