The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports circulating online regarding the deployment of prospective corps members from the south-east, south-south, and south-west regions of Nigeria to the north-west.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC, the organization refuted the authenticity of a letter purportedly detailing the deployment.

Megwa labeled the letter as fake and misleading, asserting that it did not originate from the NYSC management.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NYSC is an organization backed up by the constitution with its statutory and unbiased deployment policy without tribal, religious and other sentiments. This we have successfully done in the past fifty (50) years of its existence,” the statement clarified.

“In addition to the above, parents, guardians, prospective corps members and other members of the public are hereby advised to disregard the malicious information which lacks merit with the imagination of the writer and meant to raise apprehension among the prospective corps members for the next orientation exercise slated for April, 2024.

“NYSC management restates its strong commitment to the security and welfare of our corps members. The scheme will continue to sustain the existing deployment policy of prospective corps members for the benefit of all members of the service corps and also aid national unity and development without prejudice.

“Similarly, purveyors of fake news on NYSC programmes are strongly warned and advised to desist henceforth from peddling fake news.

“Members of the public should always clarify news items from NYSC social media handles or NYSC offices located in all states of the federation.”
