Grammy-winning Afro-fusion singer Burna Boy has refuted claims that he received gifts from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), or any other politician.

The artist addressed the issue on Thursday via a post on X, in response to calls from fans urging him to support the ongoing 10-day protest against economic hardship and rising inflation, dubbed ’10 Days of Rage’ with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.

Burna Boy, known for his hits like ‘Last Last’, expressed frustration at being drawn into the political conversation, asserting his independence from political figures.

“No politician has ever given me anything,” he wrote. “Go ask Wike where the land him give me or which money him give me. You think I am your faves.”

and his team visited the government house in Port Harcourt in 2021, during Wike’s tenure as the Governor of Rivers State.

The visit followed Burna Boy’s Grammy win, during which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Star of River State (DSSRS) — the second-highest honour in the oil-producing state.

Additionally, Wike granted N10 million each to the artists who performed at Burna Boy’s homecoming concert.
