The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reacted strongly to allegations by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is meddling in the internal aftfairs of opposition parties, including the NNPP.

The party, through its National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, dismissed El-Rufai’s assertions as misleading and called for an immediate apology.

During a public statement on Wednesday, Dr. Major described El-Rufai’s comments as “unguarded and unacceptable,” insisting that the ongoing issues within the NNPP were internal and had no connection to the APC.

According to him, the disputes arose from the dissolution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that previously unified the NNPP, The National Movement (TNM), and the Kwankwassiya Movement.

“El-Rufai’s claims are misguided and based on inaccurate information possibly provided by individuals opposed to NNPP’s internal democratic processes,” Dr. Major stated.

He explained that the crisis within the party began shortly after the 2023 general elections due to the end of the MoU, which had been a temporary arrangement among the groups. The details of the disagreement have been widely reported across various platforms since 2023.

Responding to El-Rufai’s accusations that the APC was undermining opposition parties under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Dr. Major maintained that the NNPP’s internal matters were purely a result of disagreements over party leadership and structure, not external interference.

He further stated, “El-Rufai must recognize that the decision of who leads Nigeria in 2027 is beyond his control.”

The NNPP chairman urged El-Rufai to refrain from interfering in the party’s internal matters and reaffirmed that the NNPP’s priority is the welfare of Nigerians through effective governance and collaboration.

The party concluded by stating that it would continue to strengthen its internal democratic structures to ensure future electoral success, free from external influence or manipulation.
