Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has responded to recent reports suggesting it supplies 1.5 million metric tons of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the Nigerian domestic market, clarifying that its actual supply is close to 500,000 metric tons annually.

In a statement issued on Friday, NLNG reiterated its commitment to delivering 100% of its LPG production to the domestic market, a resolution endorsed by the Company’s Board of Directors in 2022.

Contrary to reports, NLNG supplied 493,000 metric tons of LPG to the domestic market in 2023, 498,000 metric tons in 2022, and 399,000 metric tons in 2021. These figures reflect NLNG’s steadfast dedication to meeting market demands while promoting increased gas utilization within Nigeria.

While the total LPG demand in the country is estimated to be around 1.5 million metric tons, NLNG currently caters to 30% of this demand, underscoring its significant contribution to the domestic LPG sector.

NLNG emphasized its commitment to supplying LPG to the domestic market and its ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of clean gas for cooking, aimed at mitigating health risks associated with firewood usage.

Furthermore, NLNG highlighted its role in fostering growth in the LPG sector by facilitating the entry of more stakeholders into the value chain and encouraging investments in infrastructure development. These initiatives have not only bolstered sectoral growth but have also created additional employment and business opportunities in Nigeria.
