The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said the Nigerian Army Medical Corps parades brilliant men and officers capable of addressing medical challenges facing the Nigerian Army.

The army chief, who made this known during the pull-out parade in honour of 14 retired generals of the Army Medical Corps held at the parade ground of the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, urged the officers and soldiers to dedicate themselves to serving the nation by going the extra mile when the need arises.

The retired officers were one full General, five Major-Generals and eight Brigadier Generals.

Represented at the occasion by the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Gen Henry Edet, Buratai lauded the virtues and the brilliance of the retiring officers, saying “what they have contributed positively to the Nigerian Army will never be forgotten.”

Speaking in the same vein, the Corps Commander, Medical, Major Gen. A. O. Amusu, said it is worthy of note that the Army have qualified, but limited, number of officers to boost its medical corps.

She maintained that quality health care is hinged on a tripod: “appropriate infrastructure, right equipment and well-trained and retrained personnel. The present NAMC is grossly deficient in all these.”
