Ahmed Lawan, the President of the Senate, has been declared the winner of the senatorial election in Yobe North.

The result was announced by Professor Omolola Aduoju, the Returning Officer of the zone, at the Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua.

The senatorial election was keenly contested between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the two major political parties in the state.

Lawan, who represents Yobe North, won the election by polling 91,318 votes, defeating his rival Ilu Alhaji-Bello of the PDP, who got 22,849 votes out of the total valid votes cast of 122,136.
