Nigeria secured a vital 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their CAF World Cup qualification Group C clash on Friday, with Victor Osimhen delivering a stellar performance by scoring both goals.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 11th minute, capitalizing on a precise cross from Ademola Lookman to give the Super Eagles an early lead. The Napoli striker then doubled Nigeria’s advantage in first-half stoppage time (45+3’), ensuring a comfortable win for his team.

The match was marked by intense physicality, with Rwanda’s D. Bizimana receiving a yellow card in the 46th minute, followed by Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi being booked in the 49th minute.

Despite Rwanda holding 45% possession, they struggled to penetrate Nigeria’s solid defense, managing only two shots on target throughout the game. Nigeria, on the other hand, dominated offensive play with three shots on target and eight corner kicks.

The victory moves Nigeria to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches, keeping their World Cup qualification hopes alive. South Africa currently leads the group with 10 points, followed by Benin (8 points) and Rwanda (7 points).

The Super Eagles will now focus on their upcoming fixtures as they aim to climb higher in the standings and secure a spot in the next stage of the qualification campaign.
