The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Niger stood at N2.4billion in the first and second quarter of 2016.

The Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, disclosed this on Tuesday in Minna, when he appeared before the‎ Niger House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commissioner was summoned by the House for briefing on the financial status of the state.

Balarabe ‎said that the total revenue that accrued to the state from the Federation Account for the period was N16.7billion, adding that inflow into the Treasury Single Account was N424.6million.

He said that the state received over N16billion from bailout funds of the Federal Government.

The commissioner said that the state would continue to explore innovative ways for improving its IGR, adding that economic reform was already being carried out.

“As you know, we are having financial difficulties as a country and Niger is not excluded, but I can assure you that we are working on how to improve the situation in spite the challenges.

“The relationships between the executive and the legislature have been very cordial and all sides are working hard to move the state forward,” he added.

In a related development, the house also resolved to summon the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The commander would explain why the commission has not restricted its operations to Federal Trunk Roads following a motion by Mr Umar Jiya (Mashegu- APC).

Jiya had said that the FRSC in Niger has been performing its functions‎ on any road regardless of whether it is federal or state.

He said that this has led to unnecessary harassments and intimidation of motorists in the state. (NAN)
