May 5, 2024 — The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced a significant shift towards digitalization in its recruitment process for internal and external examination supervisors and assistant supervisors for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

This move aims to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and eliminate fraudulent activities associated with the traditional manual recruitment process.

In a statement released from Minna, the capital city of Niger State, the Acting Director of Information and Digital Communication, Azeez Sani, outlined the key features of NECO’s new digital recruitment system. According to the statement, the transition to an online platform will facilitate the generation of supervisor’s nomination forms, appointment letters, and e-photo albums, all of which will be managed digitally.

Moreover, the digitalization process will also encompass the swapping of supervisors and assistant supervisors during examinations, providing a seamless and transparent mechanism for managing staffing requirements.

Qualified educators holding certifications ranging from the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) to advanced degrees such as Master’s, PhDs, and even Professorships are invited to apply as supervisors and assistant supervisors for either the BECE or SSCE, whether for internal or external examinations.

This marks a significant departure from NECO’s previous manual recruitment practices, signifying the council’s commitment to embracing technological advancements to enhance its operations and ensure the integrity of its examinations.

As NECO continues to modernize its processes, the transition to a digital recruitment system represents a progressive step forward in aligning with global trends and best practices in the field of education assessment.

Educators and stakeholders alike have welcomed this development, recognizing the potential benefits it offers in terms of efficiency, transparency, and the overall credibility of NECO’s examination procedures.
