The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made its largest single destruction of illicit narcotics to date, incinerating a staggering 1.6 million kilograms of assorted drugs. The massive haul, which included significant quantities of cocaine, heroin, cannabis, codeine syrup, tramadol, skuchies, and methamphetamine, was publicly destroyed at a remote site along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Speaking at the event, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd), represented by a senior official, emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Nigeria. He stated that this unprecedented destruction served as a powerful message to drug barons that their criminal activities would not be tolerated under the current administration’s firm resolve.

The NDLEA highlighted that the seized drugs originated from various commands within Zone 9 and Zone 11, encompassing Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states, as well as the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and border regions. The agency also reported securing over 10,572 drug-related convictions in the past four years, attributing this success to enhanced operational strategies and judicial support.

The NDLEA Chairman expressed gratitude to the governors of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states for their consistent support, alongside acknowledging the crucial assistance received from international partners, financial institutions, and Nigeria’s military and paramilitary forces in the fight against drug trafficking. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State lauded the NDLEA’s professionalism and dedication in combating the drug menace.
