The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has again failed to certify the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos state.

Sam Adurogboye, General Manager, Public Affairs, confirmed that NCAA is yet to certify any of the international airports in the country due to non-readiness of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) over the years.

He, however, said that the regulatory authority is on the verge of certifying the two airports, Lagos and Abuja, saying that the exercise was going on simultaneously in the two airports.

He also assured that the airports would be certified before the end of July, 2017, stressing that Bernard Aliu, ICAO President, had being assisting in the exercise through the regional office in Dakar, Senegal.

Henrietta Yakubu, Acting General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, also said the airports would be certified before the end of July.

“It would be certified by July. ICAO officials have been coming around. It is just the open items that we are waiting to close. Once that is done, the airport would be certified by NCAA. The process has already started. I know that the certification would be rounded off by July.”
