Barely a day to his swearing-in as the fifth executive president of Nigeria, President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, has reiterated his willingness to work with anyone who emerges the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the incoming eight National Assembly.

In a statement released in Abuja yesterday and signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari pointed out that the clarifcation had become necessary in view of the continued name-dropping in some circles linking his name to some contestants, adding that he was ready to work with anyone, irrespective of what part of the country he or she comes from.

“I am prepared to work with any leaders the House or Senate selects. It doesn’t matter who the person is or where he or she is from.

“There is due process for the selection of leaders of the National Assembly and I will not interfere in that process,’’ he promised.

The President-elect was quoted as saying that the media and the public should begin to get used to his stance, adding that “it is no more business as usual.

“Nigeria has, indeed, entered a new dispensation. My administration does not intend to repeat the same mistakes made by previous governments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Buhari has extended his condolences to former president Olusegun Obasanjo over the death of his younger sister, Madam Aduni Oluwasola Eweje-Obasanjo.

In a statement issued at Abuja by Shehu, Buhari expressed sadness that Madam Obasanjo died at “a period when her wisdom will be sorely missed.”
