Mainoma disclosed this on Wednesday when members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, visited him.

However, he said the proposal made by the management was still subject to approval by the governing council of the university and the State Government.

He explained that the increment had become necessary due to the shortfalls in the subventions from the state government and dwindling sources of funding.

According to him, the monthly allocation from the state government stood at N129 million, while the institution’s salary wage bill is N229 million, leaving the management to augment with N100 million monthly from other sources.

He said when approved, the tuition increment would only affect new intakes for the 2016/2017 academic session.

The vice chancellor also announced that the school would resume on Jan. 2, 2017, as against the earlier date of Nov. 27.

He explained that the reason for the postponement of the resumption date was to enable the university Senate to meet and approve the results of students from the last examination.

Mainoma also assured parents and students that the management was working hard to provide hostel accommodation for students because of the exorbitant rent charged by landlords outside the campus.
