MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50 percent reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, bringing the cost down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in a strategic move to attract more customers and combat falling subscription rates.

The new offer, part of a campaign themed “We’ve Got You,” officially launched on June 16 and will run until July 31. It also includes a free upgrade offer for both active and returning customers as the company seeks to ease economic pressures on households and improve access to its digital TV services.

John Ugbe, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the initiative underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to reward loyalty and expand access to quality entertainment.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” Ugbe stated.
“The ‘We’ve Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

Ugbe added that the platform is repositioning itself as a hub of daily value across various genres, from movies and drama to kids’ shows and news.

“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” he said.

The price slash comes at a critical time for the company, which is currently facing a legal tussle with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over its recent subscription price hikes.

On February 24, MultiChoice announced a new round of price increases for DStv and GOtv packages, effective from March 1, drawing backlash from consumers and triggering regulatory scrutiny.

Under the new rates, DStv Compact rose from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, Compact Plus from ₦25,000 to ₦30,000, DStv Premium from ₦37,000 to ₦44,500, while GOtv Supa Plus increased from ₦15,700 to ₦16,800.
