Africa’s leading telecommunications company, MTN Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Meta to significantly enhance the quality and reliability of voice and video calls on real-time calling applications, notably WhatsApp, across 12 MTN markets.

The collaboration, announced by both companies, focuses on creating application-aware networks and network-aware applications, with the goal of ensuring users experience more stable, clear, and uninterrupted voice and video communications.

MTN and Meta have since the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) been actively collaborating to pinpoint critical areas of improvement.

Through extensive data analytics, comprehensive testing, and targeted network optimizations, both companies have developed solutions designed to greatly enhance user interactions on mobile networks.

The initiative has already kicked off in Nigeria, the first market where these enhancements were implemented. Early results from MTN Nigeria indicate notable improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs), including a remarkable 50% improvement in real-time call quality, significantly enhancing user experience.

Speaking on the development, Yahaya Ibrahim, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at MTN Nigeria, expressed optimism about the project’s impact.

“This implementation further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our customers’ digital experience. We’re pleased with the remarkable improvement in our real-time communication services, reflecting our commitment to innovative customer solutions,” Ibrahim said.

Similarly, Diego Marí, Head of Network Ecosystems Engineering at Meta, highlighted the significance of the collaboration.
