Meet ‘Benjamin Ola-Akande’ Nigerian Who Becomes First Black President Of Westminster College, U.S (Photo)

A Nigerian man, Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande, has been named the president of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri to replace the current president, Dr. George B. Forsythe who has been president since 2008.

The announcement was made in a press release by chairman of the Westminster Board of Trustees, Wallace L. Head:

“We’re proud to introduce Dr. Akande as president of Westminster College.”

“We’ve achieved our year-long goal of finding the most qualified person to lead Westminster
and to continue executing our strategic plan.”

Dr. Akande, was the Dean of the University’s Business and Technology School, is the 21st president of Westminster College in Fulton and the first African-American president in the college’s 164 year history.

The professor of economics also leads Webster’s global Office of Corporate Partnerships.

Originally from Nigeria, Akande said he also hopes to continue Westminster’s strong focus on outreach to international students.

“I came here 34-35 years ago as an international student and look at me, I’m president of Westminster College,” Akande said.
