A security breach at the Federal Correctional Center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, resulted in the escape of 12 inmates in the early hours of Monday. The Kogi State Government has confirmed the incident and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak. Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the escape as “unfortunate” but commended the swift response of security agencies. He assured the public that the state government is taking decisive action to prevent future occurrences.

“The fact that inmates reportedly escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious questions,” Fanwo stated. “We need a comprehensive investigation to determine how this happened, apprehend the escaped inmates, and identify any potential internal sabotage.” Governor Ahmed Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work closely with the Federal Correctional Center and other security agencies to bolster security measures and prevent similar incidents. The state government has also pledged to provide logistical and other necessary support to federal security agencies to enhance their operational capabilities.

Despite the jailbreak, the government has urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities, assuring them that the situation is under control. “There is no cause for panic,” Fanwo emphasized. “The security of lives and property remains our utmost priority.”
The investigation into the jailbreak is ongoing, with the state government vowing to uncover the truth and ensure accountability.
