A two-storey building has collapsed in the Isale Eko area of Lagos Island, with many people feared trapped inside. The building, which was allegedly defective, collapsed following a fire in parts of Dosunmu Market.

According to the Lagos territorial coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, 14 other buildings were seriously impacted by the fire. Emergency responders, including NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority, are currently at the scene.

This incident comes just a month after four buildings collapsed in the same market due to a fire. The cause of the fire and the building collapse are yet to be determined.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the number of casualties is not yet confirmed. The incident has raised concerns about the structural integrity of buildings in the area and the need for stricter safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
