Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Amad Diallo is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to ankle ligament damage sustained during training.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham, Amorim revealed that the 22-year-old winger is unlikely to return before the next campaign.

“I think so,” Amorim told Sky Sports when asked if Diallo’s season was over.

The injury is a major setback for both Diallo and Manchester United, as the Ivory Coast international had been one of the team’s few bright spots in an otherwise challenging campaign, netting six goals in his last 14 appearances across all competitions.

Diallo’s absence further compounds United’s injury crisis, with Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Toby Collyer also suffering setbacks in training. Additionally, Christian Eriksen and Leny Yoro are battling illness, while Lisandro Martinez was recently ruled out for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

“Amad was alone, Ugarte was a kick,” Amorim explained. “Toby and Kobbie, they felt something during training.”

Despite the growing injury list, the United boss remains optimistic, highlighting the opportunities this situation presents for younger players.

“It is what it is, but we have the kids. They have the opportunity to be on the bench and they are ready to play,” Amorim said. “It’s a really hard season, and we have to deal with that—and we are doing that.”

When asked if he felt the odds were stacked against him, the Portuguese coach dismissed the idea, acknowledging that difficult periods happen in football.

“I don’t see it like that, sometimes things happen and there are seasons that everything happens at the same time,” Amorim stated.

Despite Diallo’s absence, Amorim remains hopeful about finding new solutions in attack.

“I know that Amad, if you follow all the big situations, the creation of danger in the opposite box, Amad was always there. Maybe we’ll find new ways to create situations. Maybe we will find good things in this difficult moment.”
