A devastating incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at a mosque in Laraba Abasawa, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, when a man, Shafiu Aminu, set the building on fire while worshippers were observing ‘Subh’, the morning prayer.

The attack left at least 28 people with serious injuries, who were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

According to eyewitnesses, Aminu used petrol to start the fire and locked the mosque door, trapping the worshippers inside.

It took some time for people outside to become aware of the incident and rescue the victims, who were struggling to escape.

A resident, Ibrahim Jibrin, described the scene, saying, “I was about to go to the mosque when I saw a boy running engulfed in fire, shouting for help. We didn’t know what was happening before then.”

Okay.ng learnt that this is not the first time Aminu has been involved in a violent incident, according to residents.

He had previously attacked his two elder brothers and claimed to have killed them, and has a history of family feuds. Afterward the incident, Aminu surrendered himself to the police.
