A man, identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, was arrested by police authorities in Abuja after attempting suicide by climbing a 120ft mast at ASO Radio in the Katampe area. The incident occurred on Monday, with the man threatening to take his life in protest of the country’s socio-economic hardship.

Thanks to the prompt intervention of emergency responders and police operatives, the man was persuaded to come down from the mast without harming himself. According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, the suspect is currently in police custody and in a stable condition.

This incident marks the second time in recent years that an individual has attempted suicide by climbing a mast in the nation’s capital due to economic hardship. In 2018, a similar incident occurred when Nurudeen Lliyasu climbed a telecommunication mast, also threatening to take his own life.

The police have stated that further developments will be communicated in due course.
