Lucky Imasuen, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has pulled out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election scheduled to take place in Edo today. His decision was communicated through a withdrawal letter released on Saturday morning.

Imasuen, who was among the 12 governorship aspirants cleared by a committee set up by the APC National Working Committee, cited the interest of peace and unity as the rationale behind his withdrawal. In the letter addressed to his supporters, he explained that his decision stemmed from the party leadership’s determination to zone the governorship ticket to the Central Senatorial District.

Expressing gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering dedication, Imasuen acknowledged their role in driving his campaign forward. He affirmed his readiness to support the eventual candidate chosen by the party in the primary election.

Meanwhile, the APC primary election is set to proceed as planned today, amidst Imasuen’s withdrawal and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s recent announcement of his withdrawal from the race. Ize-Iyamu, a notable contender, conveyed his decision through a letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and copied to the acting state chairman of the party, Jarrett Tenebe. In his letter, Ize-Iyamu described the decision as a painful one, surprising many observers.
