LAWMA Official Arrested For Stealing Street Light Cable.

Ibrahim Alli, 29, who is suspected to belong to a two-man gang that specializes in vandalizing and stealing street lights power cable has been apprehended by men of the Rapid Respond Squad, RSS, in Opebi, Ikeja area of Lagos State.

Alli, who works with Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, at Onipanu, was nabbed by RRS patrol team while stealing the cables although his partner in the alleged crime, Yunusa escaped.

Confirming the arrest, the state police spokesperson, Joe Offor said, “The policemen who were on routine patrol in the area, sighted the two men while in the act of vandalizing the street light power cable, which had left the entire community in blackout.

“As the policemen were approaching, the two suspects took to their heels, and immediately the operatives gave them a hot chase, one of the suspect was apprehended while the other suspect managed to escape.

Offor also said, “The suspect from his statement revealed that the suspect and his gang member were in the habit of vandalizing and stealing power cable which always has adverse effect on the entire community by keeping the area in total blackout on several times”.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect who hails from Yola Local Government in Adamawa State, said his greed led him into stealing street light power cables.

“I am a staff of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) at Onipanu, but I was not contented with my meager salary. And my friend, Yunusa, introduced this act of robbery to me,” he said.
