The late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Abuja on Friday, concluding an illustrious military career that spanned decades.

The solemn internment ceremony marked the end of two days of funeral rites, which began earlier in the week in Lagos.

The burial, attended by family, military officials, and dignitaries, was conducted with full military honors. Lagbaja’s casket, draped in Nigeria’s green and white national colors, was lowered into the ground at 4:41 p.m., following a two-hour ceremony.

The casket arrived at the cemetery around 3 p.m. in a white funeral wagon, following a funeral service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.

The ceremony reflected the immense respect and admiration for the late general’s service and legacy.

The funeral rites commenced on Thursday with a service of songs at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

Earlier in the day, the Nigerian Air Force transported Lagbaja’s body to Abuja, arriving at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 12:15 p.m.
