Isioma Sybil Nwosu, a Biochemistry graduate, has emerged as the star of Lagos State University’s 2023/2024 academic session, achieving the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93. Her exceptional academic performance was recognized at LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony held on Thursday, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, awarded her a N10 million cash gift.

The convocation also celebrated other notable figures, with honorary doctorate degrees conferred on the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), and former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Otunba Olufemi Pedro. Marwa, a former military administrator of Lagos State, received a Doctor of Humane Letters, while Pedro was honoured with a Doctor of Business.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the critical role of education in societal progress and stressed the need to value academic excellence on par with achievements in other fields. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting students in state-owned tertiary institutions through investments and infrastructure development, highlighting education as a key priority within the THEMES+ agenda and mentioning initiatives like the Job Initiative Lagos aimed at enhancing student employability.
