The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has suspended 25 students from different departments for examination misconduct.

The exam misconduct according to LASU bulletin were committed in 2012/2013, 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 academic sessions.

The reasons for their suspension includes the use of fake docket, impersonation, name in the attendance, some were caught with answers on a phone, others with answer written on a piece of paper, another with fake exam docket and LASUES identity card, exam script found to be suspicious during grading and one caught with photocopies material inside the exam hall.

Fourteen of the affected students are in 500 level, final year at the external system, three in 400 level, seven in 300 level and one in 200 level. The suspension is for the 2015/2016 academic session.

The statement reads: ‘’The university management on the recommendation of the students’ disciplinary committee has approved the immediate suspension of 25 students of the institution for the 2015/2016 academic session.

‘’The students were suspension for failing to appear before the examination misconduct panels set up by the university, to consider cases of examination misconduct allegations levelled against them.’’

According to the bulletin, the disciplinary panel took the decision at its 37th statutory meeting and directed that the students be re-invited for trial while serving the suspension and should liaise with their faculties/campuses for a new date.

In related development, the university has revoked the professional admission offered to 703 candidates for the 2015/2016 academic session for making fraudulent claims.

The 703 candidates who lost their admission were among 5,417 applicants offered admission into various programmes.

The Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun who disclosed this during the 2015/2016 matriculation ceremony said the admission exercise was transparent and based on merit.

Prof Fagbohun said 12, 815 applicants applied to LASU and 5, 417 were offered admission but only 4,714 were cleared as students.

He disclosed that candidates who claimed to be of Lagos state origin were required to substantiate their claim by submitting relevant documents as proofs.

Fagbohun explained that the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) was set up for those who claimed to be from Lagos and candidates (703) with false claims had their offer of professional admission revoked.

The VC read the riot act to the new students and tasked them to shun negative social vices such as cultism, prostitution, indecent dressing, involvement in drugs and other criminal activities warning ‘’these are acts that can result in the suspension or premature termination of studentship.’’

‘’Be focused and dedicated to your academic work. Attendance and punctuality at lectures are fundamental, otherwise, you may be denied access to sit for examinations. Make yourself aware of regulations and procedures relevant to your studies and activities as a student of the university, and to seek advice where you are unsure what is required, the VC stressed.’’

He used the occasion to laud Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his determination to provide qualitative education in Lagos state noting that the government has continued to commit huge sum for the accreditation of various programmes in the university.
