LASUThe Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, says the institution released 16,000 results and certificates between January and November to graduates.Fagbohun said at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Lagos that there were backlog of results and certificates yet to be issued.
Fagbohun said at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Lagos that there were backlog of results and certificates yet to be issued.

He said that the institution had challenges of certificates and results issuance due some logistic reasons but assured that all those were in the past.

“In relation to the backlog, the Lagos State University has challenges in terms of that.

“But what did we do this time around? We introduced a task force, particularly for the External School System.

“That was where it was really very rampant; that people will finish (their studies), they were not getting results, they were not getting certificates.

“And we had a task force to work on it aggressively and every Monday we have review meetings.

“And that is why you will see that between January and now, we have released about 16,000 results and certificates.’’

He said that the development was part of measures the university took towards attaining global best practices.

Fagbohun, however, said that the institution was gradually getting out of the problem of delayed certificates.

According to him, in the last three years, as students are graduating, they are receiving their certificates.

“If you graduate from the Lagos State University now, as at the point you are graduating, your certificate is ready. Now!

“And when I say now, I’m talking of the last two, three years, your certificate will be ready, you can collect.

“The only reason why we don’t give it out on the day of graduation is – there are so many people around; they are wearing your gown; you are taking photograph; you will leave your certificate on and somebody will pick it up.

“So, when we give them the scrolls; everybody should know, we give them empty scrolls, so don’t go and steal it.

“But after the convocation, the following day, go to the Exams and Records, you will be able to collect your certificate the moment you fulfill all the conditions of signing and the rest of them’’.

According to him, the institution has introduced a device that brings up all details of graduates and their accumulated records of academic performance as soon as they are captured into the system.

Fagbohun apologised to all graduates, whose certificates were delayed in the past, saying that the institution had overcome the challenges.

“I will really want to take responsibility for these avoidable challenges in the time past where students will graduate and will have to wait for many years before getting their results and certificates.

“I sincerely use this opportunity to apologise for whatever harrowing experiences the development might have caused our graduates of several years.

“We can comfortably say that all these were in the time past as we have introduced a technology that ensures that certificates and results are issued instantly,’’ Fagbohun said.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the institution had also put up an archival task force in place that ensured that details of graduates of several years were retrieved and uploaded in the system to facilitate issuance.

“We also want to assure our graduates under this category, that within the next three months, everyone that finished from LASU will be able to collect his or her transcript at no cost.
