The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a ₦32 billion increase for the Outer Marina shore protection project in Lagos, bringing the total contract value to ₦176 billion from the initial ₦144 billion.

Minister of Works David Umahi announced the revision was necessary to incorporate vital infrastructure that had been omitted from the original scope, particularly Nigerian Navy facilities. The announcement came during his briefing on recent FEC approvals, which was shared on President Bola Tinubu’s official social media channels.

“This project is critical as it safeguards numerous federal and state assets situated along the Outer Marina shoreline,” Umahi explained. “These include military and police installations, as well as Lagos’s rail infrastructure.”

The minister confirmed that construction firm Build Well continues to execute the project, with work progressing to ensure comprehensive protection for all relevant facilities.

In a separate development, the FEC also approved a contract revision for the Cham-Numan Road and Bridge in Adamawa State following significant damage caused by flooding in October 2024. Climate change-intensified rains destroyed a temporary bypass that had been constructed while the main bridge was under development.

After personally inspecting the site at President Tinubu’s direction, Umahi committed to swift restoration of this vital transportation link. The contractor, CGGC, requested the review with approximately 4km of work remaining before completion.

“The bridge is now nearly finished,” Umahi stated, emphasizing the project’s importance for regional connectivity and economic activity.
