In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday, Otunba Kunle Akinyele, a prominent Lagos hotelier, collapsed and died during the thanksgiving service marking his wife’s 60th birthday at Christ Apostolic Church, Egbeda, oKay.ng reports.

The celebration was for Deaconess Catherine Adejoke Akinyele.

According to eyewitnesses and a video posted online, Akinyele appeared distressed and gestured for assistance before slumping. The planned reception at Noble Castle Events Centre was cancelled following the tragedy.

Vendors who had prepared food, decorations, and entertainment were left stunned. One vendor noted the Master of Ceremony had spoken with Akinyele shortly before the collapse, and the news of his death spread rapidly thereafter.
