Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has dismissed claims of a purported power-sharing agreement between himself, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The former Kano State governor, in an interview with BBC, refuted reports suggesting a plan where Atiku would rule Nigeria for four years, followed by Kwankwaso for another four years, and Obi for eight years.

Kwankwaso labeled the claims as baseless and unfounded, stating that no such arrangement was ever discussed or agreed upon.

“I did not appreciate this at all,” Kwankwaso said. “They were told that I had agreed to a deal where Atiku would serve for four years, I would serve for another four years, and Peter Obi would serve for eight years. This is completely false; such an agreement never existed.”

The NNPP leader accused individuals in Atiku’s camp of spreading the narrative through consultations and meetings with regional leaders and clerics to gain political traction.

“Such lies and deceit are precisely why we left,” he added. “Myself, Peter Obi, Wike, and others all left. Now they are coming back, asking us to help those who humiliated us to achieve their goals.”
