Abductors have demanded a ransom of N50 million for the release of two students from the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State.

The students, identified as Joshua Sardauna from the Economics department and Obianu Elizabeth from the Microbiology department, were abducted from a shop attached to a hostel accommodating students outside the school premises.

The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, April 2, 2024, around 10:00 PM when kidnappers attacked the shop, which was staffed by the two students working at a restaurant. The abductors reportedly targeted the owner of the eatery and indicated their intention to return for him.

Ashu Agbu, the head of information and protocol unit of the institution, revealed this information via a telephone interview.

Agbu also stated that about 90 percent of the students and staff of the institution reside outside the school premises, as mentioned by the vice chancellor during a recent convocation ceremony.

In response to the abduction, security agencies and local youths are conducting search operations in surrounding forests and bush paths to apprehend the kidnappers. The priority is to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.

An expanded meeting is scheduled for Monday involving security agencies, local, state, and federal government representatives to address the security challenges and find a lasting solution to the problem.
