Two students of the Federal University Wukari, who were abducted by suspected kidnappers, have regained their freedom. The students were released late Thursday night near Chinkai village in Wukari local government area of Taraba state.

Ashu Agya, the head of the university’s information and protocol unit, confirmed their release.

A ransom of 700 thousand naira was reportedly paid to secure their freedom, after the kidnappers initially demanded 50 million naira.

The abduction took place on April 1st at an eatery located outside the school premises. During the incident, the kidnappers attempted to abduct more students but were unsuccessful, resulting in the assault of students and shop owners, as well as the looting of shops.

The majority of the university’s staff and students reside outside the school premises, according to the Vice Chancellor. The targeted shop, attached to the hostels accommodating these students, was attacked, leading to the abduction of two students who worked there.

Identified as Joshua Sardauna from the Economics Department and Obianu Elizabeth from the Microbiology department, the students returned to rewrite their examinations due to previous academic setbacks.
