The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo has announced that Air Peace has successfully addressed the safety concerns raised by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA).

The minister disclosed this in a statement via his official X handle on Wednesday.

The UK CAA had, in a letter dated April 7, flagged concerns regarding Air Peace’s compliance with certain safety regulations, specifically highlighting the airline’s use of electronic flight bag (EFB) functions without operational approval. However, Air Peace refuted these claims, asserting that they had obtained the necessary approvals from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“My attention has been drawn to recent media publications citing some issues allegedly relating to possible safety violations at the Gatwick Airport by Air Peace Airlines raised by safety inspectors of the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority,” Keyamo said in his statement.

“We want to reiterate that Air Peace Airlines is the Nigerian flag carrier designated on the London route and as such enjoys the full backing and support of the Nigerian government in its operation of that route.”

Keyamo also mentioned that he had been reliably briefed on the situation by the Acting Director General of the NCAA. “I am informed that the safety issues raised have since been adequately addressed by the Management of Air Peace and promptly closed to the satisfaction of the UK authorities,” he added.

The minister emphasized the federal government’s unwavering support for all Nigerian carriers operating on international routes. “For the avoidance of doubt, the federal government of Nigeria has put its full weight and might behind all the local airlines designated on international routes in their endeavours in prosecuting these operations and shall provide all the necessary assistance and cooperation to ensure their success. Air Peace is no exception in this regard,” Keyamo said.

He further assured that the federal government will continue to support and nudge all Nigerian flag carriers, including Air Peace, towards achieving world-class operational excellence. Keyamo concluded by expressing his full confidence in their operations.
