Kenyan President William Ruto has announced the dismissal of his entire cabinet, except for the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. This move comes as a response to the recent deadly protests against his administration, which saw peaceful rallies escalate into violence and the storming of parliament.

The protests, led by young Kenyans, were sparked by steep tax increases and forced the government to abandon the controversial finance bill. President Ruto’s decision to dissolve the cabinet aims to defuse tensions and address the concerns of the Kenyan people. The president stated that he made the decision after reflecting on the performance of his cabinet and listening to the voices of the people.

Ruto’s administration seeks to form a “broad-based government” and restore stability in the East African nation.
