US Vice President Kamala Harris has lauded President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek reelection as “patriotic,” while pledging to secure the Democratic nomination and defeat former President Donald Trump.

In a statement released on Sunday, Harris expressed deep admiration for Biden’s choice, highlighting his lifelong commitment to public service.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else,” she said.

Harris, who has received Biden’s endorsement, emphasized her dedication to uniting the Democratic Party and the nation in the upcoming election.

“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump.”

Biden announced his decision to step down from the presidential race on Saturday, citing the best interest of his party and the country.

This move has set the stage for Harris to take the helm and rally the Democratic base against Trump in the next election.
