President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria today following a two-week working trip to France and the United Kingdom. The update was shared by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, via a post on his official X handle on Monday.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today,” Onanuga announced, putting an end to speculation over the President’s extended stay abroad.

Tinubu initially departed for Paris on April 2 for what was described as a “short working visit.” According to earlier statements from the presidency, the trip was aimed at evaluating the administration’s midterm performance and reviewing ongoing reform strategies ahead of the government’s second anniversary.

“The retreat provided an opportunity to reflect on national progress and to strategize for the acceleration of key development priorities,” Onanuga noted. He added that during his time in Europe, President Tinubu remained actively engaged with his team, maintaining oversight of governance matters from abroad.

However, as the President’s stay extended beyond two weeks, concerns grew among critics and the opposition, particularly in light of mounting security challenges at home. Responding to the criticism, the presidency issued a clarification on April 17, reiterating that Tinubu’s absence was temporary and consistent with the initial timeframe communicated to the public.

“The President’s return to Abuja will align with the end of the Easter holiday,” Onanuga said, assuring Nigerians of the President’s continued leadership and commitment.

The presidency also acknowledged public concerns over Tinubu’s extended absence, stating that his administration remains fully functional and focused on delivering on its reform agenda.
