Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in the first fixture of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series on Thursday.

Okay.ng reports that the Super Eagles won the game played at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja without fans in the stands.

It can be recalled that the world football–governing body, FIFA, slammed a one-match ban on Nigeria following a fracas that occurred at the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff round against the Black Stars of Ghana in March.

Jonathan Morsay of Sierra Leone scored the first goal of the game before Nigeria replied with goals from Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen.
