Instagram has officially launched Edits, its new standalone video-editing app now available globally on both the App Store and Google Play Store.
The Edits app, which rivals TikTok’s CapCut, is designed to help users easily create and edit videos on their smartphones, whether for Instagram Reels or any other platform.
Key features of the app include long-camera capture, project management, and watermark-free export. According to Instagram, Edits offers a frame-accurate timeline with clip-level editing, along with tools for audio enhancement, green screen effects, transitions, and AI-image animation.
The app also introduces an “Inspiration” tab, where users can browse trending Reels, explore popular audio tracks, and save creative ideas for later use. A separate “Ideas” tab allows creators to organize their notes, saved Reels, and other project materials.
“We want to build the best creative tools to help creators express themselves, not just on Instagram or Facebook, but on any platform,” the company said in a press release. “We have more exciting features coming soon and will keep listening to feedback to improve the app every week.”
The launch of Edits follows comments made three months ago by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who revealed that the company was working on a “full suite of creative tools” to support content creators.
