The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to resume nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) in the first quarter of 2025.

The exercise, initially scheduled to begin at the local government area (LGA) level, will later extend to registration areas (RAs).

The development was revealed in a November 20, 2024, memo from Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC’s secretary, addressed to resident electoral commissioners (RECs).

The memo, seen by Okay.ng, directed RECs to make necessary arrangements for the registration process.

The memo stated: “Kindly provide the following information for adequate preparation for the exercise: Status of INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) and accessories in the state. Status of both coloured and black/white heavy-duty printers and availability of CVR forms/materials.”

INEC emphasized the importance of early preparation, noting the need to identify and select staff who will serve as voter registration officials.

It also called for updates on the status of uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to facilitate the printing of a register of uncollected cards for display during the exercise.

The commission previously suspended the CVR exercise in July 2022 ahead of the 2023 general election.

However, INEC conducted limited voter registration in states with off-cycle elections during that period.
