Political thugs in Rivers State have set the office of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) ablaze in Emohua local government area, Vanguard reports.

The INEC office located in Emohua, the Commission’s headquarters, started burning hours ago. It is believed that the fire incident is connected to the flawed electoral process in the state on Saturday, March 28.

Nobody or group has been fingered in the fire attack yet.

Similarly, thousands of the All Progressives Congress, APC, members reportedly thronged the state INEC office in Port Harcourt, demanding the cancellation of the Presidential and National Assembly elections held in Rivers State on Saturday.

Witnesses say the protesters  carried placards with inscriptions such as; “INEC in Rivers State is an arm of PDP,” “No Rigging in Rivers election,” “Electoral officers in Rivers State have compromised with PDP,” among others.

Following the heated atmosphere in the state, heavily armed anti-riot Policemen have taken over a portion of the Aba road.

Meanwhile, an international observer team has said faulted the way elections were conducted in Rivers State.

The team leader,  Jennifer Lyne, cited widespread irregularities in the way INEC conducted the Saturday election.

“We are not satisfied with the way the election was conducted,” she said. “The election was not credible and was marred by irregularities.”
