INEC Chairman Prof Attahiru Jega Falls ill

House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters had to yesterday postpone it planned meet with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and stakeholders due to the ill health of INEC Chief.

INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega has according to sources fallen ill.

The committee led by Jerry Manwe had extended an invitation to INEC to hear and discuss the activities lined up for the 2015 general elections and stage of preparation for the tolls.

Mr Oscar Okoro read: “The chairman (Manwe) has just directed me to convey the inability of the INEC chairman to come for the meeting tomorrow (Friday) as a result of ill-health.

“Accordingly, the meeting of tomorrow (yesterday) will not hold. A new date will be communicated please. All inconveniences are regretted,” a statement by the acting clerk of the National Assembly.

The committee had noted that the purpose of the meet was to check the current burning issues on 2015 general elections and to proffer necessary solutions.

The National and National Assembly elections are to be held February 14 while gubernatorial and House of Assembly polls are scheduled for February 28.

The committee are attempting to check INEC’s level of preparedness for the next month’s election, funding, security issues, franchise of internally displaced persons and sundry issues arising from concerns by Nigerians.
