Following his coronation, prominent indigenes of Oyo town are calling on the new Alaafin, Oba Akeem Owoade, to urgently address escalating and violent land disputes with the Afijio Local Government Area, okay.ng reports.
Stakeholders, including the Baba Iyaji of Oyo, Mr. Mukaila Afonja, and former lawmaker Muideen Olagunju, emphasized the growing threat to peace, particularly in areas like Ilora and Awe, exacerbated by the recent absence of a monarch.
They urged Oba Owoade to foster dialogue and collaborate with Afijio traditional rulers to find a lasting resolution. Community elder Adebayo Olawoyin also stressed the importance of religious tolerance and youth engagement under the new Alaafin’s reign.
Lawmakers and former representatives further tasked Oba Owoade with uniting communities, promoting development, preserving cultural heritage, and advocating for Yoruba interests.
