Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has set a new Spanish La Liga record as the fastest player this season.
The Ghanaian-born Spanish striker recorded a time of 35.71 kilometers per hour on Saturday in their 1-1 drawn game with Deportivo La Coruna at the San Mames.
The 20-year-old has now eclipsed the previous best mark for the distance of 35.53 mph set by Valencia and Algeria attacking midfielder Sofiane Feghouli.
Almeria’s Michel is third in a time 35.42 mph with Real Madrid’s speedster Gareth Bale claiming fourth fastest player in 34.29 km / h in the Spanish Primera division this season.
Williams had already garnered attention earlier in the season of course, when he became the first black player to score in Athletic Bilbao’s 117-year history after netting against Torino in a 2-2 Europa League draw.
He was handed his debut by Ernesto Valverde in December and has gone on to make 17 appearances in La Liga.
Williams was born in Bilbao to a Ghanaian father and a Liberian mother and joined Athletic’s youth system at 16.
