The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has initiated a formal investigation following the circulation of a viral video on social media depicting a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

The woman involved in the incident has been identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, holder of passport number A11990869.

The incident has sparked significant concern, prompting the Comptroller General of Immigration, KN Nandap, to order a thorough investigation into the matter.

In a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo issued on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the NIS stated:

In response to this incident, the Comptroller General of Immigration, KN Nandap directed that Mrs. Favour Igiebor be invited for further investigation.

The NIS further emphasized its commitment to upholding national security and preserving the dignity and integrity of Nigeria’s legal instruments. The statement continued:
