The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has directed companies using Supernumerary Police (SPY) to stop the use of police uniform for their operations on or before the new year.

According to Olabisi Kolawole, the Force Public Relations Officer, Arase gave this directive on Thursday at a meeting with Security Managers of Companies using SPY Police for their internal security.

Speaking from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, she said the IGP noted this measure being part of his administration’s renewed crime fighting strategy, is aimed at curtailing the activities of criminally minded persons who disguise in police uniform to perpetuate their nefarious activities.

Kolawole added that the IGP has also approved the use of a newly-designed grey and black trouser as the new uniform to be worn by spy police officers nationwide.

The Nigerian SPY Police, known as the “supernumerary”, is a division of the Police Force whose member’s careers have been devoted to protecting oil multinationals and other corporate institutions in the Banking sector.
