Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed circulating claims that he has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the rumours as false, politically motivated, and intended to cause disaffection within the party, okay.ng reports.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Abubakar reiterated his continued commitment to the opposition party and its vision for Nigeria. The clarification follows reports on social media, particularly from a Facebook page identified as “Adamawa Happenings,” alleging his resignation from the PDP.

“We usually refrain from responding to anonymous social media accounts such as ‘Adamawa Happenings,’” Ibe stated. “However, due to numerous inquiries from journalists and concerned citizens, we feel obligated to clarify: His Excellency Atiku Abubakar has not resigned from the PDP. He remains a dedicated and loyal member of the party.”

The statement accused the source of being a tool of political propaganda, aimed at sowing confusion among the public and Abubakar’s supporters.

“This rumour emanates from a Facebook page notorious for spreading misinformation — clearly run by desperate political elements with mischievous intent,” Ibe said. “It is not merely false; it is a calculated attempt to deceive and disrupt.”

Ibe urged Nigerians to disregard the claim, describing it as “a crude political smear campaign” that lacks credibility. “Supporters of Waziri Adamawa and the general public should treat this falsehood with the contempt it deserves,” he added.

Atiku Abubakar, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, remains fully aligned with the party’s principles and the democratic aspirations of Nigerians, the statement concluded.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Atiku’s team has addressed such speculation. A previous rumour had linked him with a potential move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which was similarly denied.
