Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer Tems recently opened up about the challenges she faced in the music industry due to her appearance. In a candid conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, Tems shared that she resorted to wearing baggy clothes to stop producers from focusing on her body instead of her music.

Tems, known for her soulful voice and captivating performances, revealed that her journey to success was often complicated by unwanted attention from music producers. She found that her physical appearance frequently became a distraction, hindering her career progression.

“I was going to a lot of studios alone, meeting people I didn’t know and had never met,” Tems explained. “I’d message people to ask them to teach me how to produce music for people.”

However, Tems noticed that her body often became the center of attention, taking the focus away from her primary goal of making music.

To combat this issue, she adopted a unique strategy of wearing oversized clothing to minimize the attention on her physical appearance.

“So, because of my objective which is just wanting to make music, if my being attractive is disturbing you and stopping me from achieving my goal, I am going to help you,” Tems stated.

“So, when I go to the studio, I wear like baggy clothes and I’m in my alpha mode because I want you to not be seduced by me.”
