Nigerian hip hop singer, Konga, has made a revelation about his role in introducing renowned artist Wande Coal to music moguls Don Jazzy and D’Banj, okay.ng reports.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Konga recounted how he facilitated the initial meeting between the now-famous singer and the duo that played a significant role in shaping the Nigerian music industry.

During the interview, Konga stated, “his hit song, ‘Baby Konga’, was everywhere, before he introduced Wande Coal to Don Jazzy and D’Banj… Don Jazzy collected Wande Coal’s number instead of mine.”

His statement sheds light on the early days of Wande Coal’s rise to stardom and how he became affiliated with Mo’ Hits Records, the label co-founded by Don Jazzy and D’Banj.

Speaking further he said, “I would have signed Wande Coal, but I don’t have the capacity, and I don’t want to be greedy, because Mo’ Hits already has a platform. I didn’t even have a car at that time. My idea was I’ll call Don Jazzy. There’s a particular artist I want us to work with. At a back stage I told Wande Coal to sing for Don Jazzy, he sang one song, I said stop singing like this, after that he sang his later trending song, Ololufe.”

Konga’s revelation has since sparked reactions across social media, with several industry figures weighing in on the discussion. Entrepreneur, music, and entertainment executive Dami Adenuga was among those who acknowledged Konga’s claim. Taking to his official X (formerly called Twitter) account, Adenuga echoed Konga’s words, amplifying the discussion among fans and music enthusiasts.

The statement from Konga provides a rare glimpse into the intricate network of relationships that defined the Nigerian music scene in the early 2000s. Wande Coal, known for his distinct voice and exceptional musical talent, later became one of the most successful artists under Don Jazzy’s mentorship. His career took off with hits like Ololufe and Bumper to Bumper, which were released under Mo’ Hits Records before the label dissolved in 2012.
