Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria as president, stating that he possesses the competence and experience required for the nation’s top job.

Speaking on Politics Today, a current affairs programme aired on Channels Television Tuesday night, Makinde emphasized that his two-term experience as governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has prepared him for national leadership.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the governor said the real contest would not be between political parties, but between Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that the mood of the country suggests citizens are more focused on who can deliver results, rather than political affiliations.

“I have no doubt about my capacity to lead this country. I believe I possess the experience and the competence to occupy the highest office in the land,” Governor Seyi Makinde said. “However, the real question is: Is this what Nigerians want? Is this the direction my party believes we should take? It’s still too early to tell — we have time ahead of us.”

He added, “Right now, our priority must be to fix the party. Without a solid and united platform, there’s no foundation for anyone to pursue any serious political ambition.”

Reflecting on his journey, Makinde said, “If my political career were to end today, I would still be content. When I ventured into politics in 2007, my ambition was to become a senator. But fate had other plans. Becoming governor of my state is more than I imagined, and I remain grateful to the people for allowing me to make a meaningful impact.”
